Namibia is well known in the astronomy scene as an Eldorado for stargazers, and even “non-astronomers” return from holidays in Namibia enthusiastic about the dark skies,
which are not brightened by any earthly lighting. Over the years, a number of farms have established themselves with offerings tailored specifically to amateur astronomers.
Some farms also have offers for astrophotographers who want to pursue their passion remotely.
What all farms have in common is that the customer rents an entire observatory or has one built at their own expense and also takes care of controlling the roof,
in some cases weather observation and the like.
Since September 1, 2025, DeepSkySafaris has been operating a new type of remote project at the Isabis farm.
The ISABIS and Göllschau farms belong to Joachim Cranz. The H.E.S.S. telescope is stationed at Göllschau.
Both farms are located in the Khomas Highlands, about 2 hours southwest of Windhoek.
Isabis offers two different services for astronomers.
IsabisAstro offers classic equipment rental for those who want to experience the Namibian night sky live, and DeepSkySafaris offers new opportunities for enthusiasts of remote-controlled astrophotography.
